Controlling Candida, Yeast, & Fungus in the Body
Balancing yeast in the body is not an easy task. It takes a true commitment and desire for health and will require a complete change in life style. This may seem overwhelming in the beginning but with persistence can be easily achieved. The 10 steps that are listed below are a compilation of studies and experiences that have shown to be favorable in the elimination and balancing of Candida, yeast, and fungus overgrowth.
1. Kill Yeast & Fungus
It is imperative that you kill the overgrowth of yeast in your gut. This can be done several ways and you can choose from one of the methods below. You may have to start slow and build up to the recommended amounts to control die off symptoms. This should be done for at least 2 weeks and then back off and do lesser amounts for up to a month or 6 weeks.
Essential Oils:
Deliverance, Spice C, Mela Plus, Candila: These are all blends available from Butterfly Essential Oils. Mix 2-4 drops of one of the oils with carrier oil and apply to feet 2-4 times per day) or make your own essential oil blend with 30 drops of Oregano, 50 drops of Tea Tree, and 50 drops of Lemon
Herbs:
Fungal Defense: (Garden of Life Product) Take as directed -or-
Make your own Tincture: Equal parts chaparral, pau d’arco, olive leaf, and myrrh.
For infants between 4-12 months: 1 dropperful per day
For children 1-3 years: 2 dropperfuls per day.
For children 4-6 years: 2-3 dropperfuls per day
Age 7 and older: 3 dropperfuls 3 times a day
Homeopathic’s:
Several people have been successful at eliminating yeast using Homeopathic’s. This would be specific to each person but it may be beneficial to do the research and figure out what might work for you.
2. Clean Up Endocrine Disruptors in Your Environment
These are chemicals that studies have shown to contribute to yeast overgrowth. You can find more information on this by searching the internet. One of my favorite articles can be found in the health tips section of my blog.
3. Candida/Yeast Detox Diets
Find a diet and stick to it-this is very important and you can do it-It will be worth it! Some suggestions that have worked well include:
GAPS Diet: From the Book “Gut and Psychology Syndrome” Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride
4. Probiotics
Rebuild Good Bacteria & Good Yeast by Getting Good Probiotics in Your Diet Everyday and with Every Meal. There are several ways to make and use these. More information on each is included in the nutrition 101 section of my blog.
Kefir: Make your own kefir. Products bought in the store don’t have sufficient amounts of probiotic’s to be beneficial.
Yogurt: Make your own yogurt. Products bought in the store don’t have sufficient amounts of probiotic’s to be beneficial. Yogurt needs to ferment 24 hours to get the best benefit.
Fermented Foods: Ferment your own vegetables.
Probiotics: Take a good probiotic daily (Needs at least 15 billion live active cultures with 15 different strains of beneficial bacteria – typically best ones are found in refrigerated section)
VSL3: Powerful Pro-Biotic with 450 billion live cultures (vsl3.com & Costco)
5. Nutrition
The following are several ways to increase your nutrition and control yeast. You can find more on these subjects in the nutrition 101 section of my blog.
Eliminate refined sugars, refined flours, and refined grains from diet forever: this is very important
Green Drinks: Great nutrition high in magnesium that aids in eliminating yeast, mold, and fungus from the body. Google green drink recipies or used a powdered green drink. My favorite is “Perfect Foot” made by Garden of Life.
Boron: a trace mineral that kills mold, fungus, & yeast in body and maintains balance. Many of our soils are depleted of born.
Garlic: contains allicin which is a strong anti-fungal
Coconut Water or Cold Pressed Coconut Oil: contains caprylic acid, a powerful anti-fungal agent. Drink water from one or more coconut daily and/or take 3 Tbsp. of cold pressed organic coconut oil per day.
6. Control Die-Off Symptoms
When yeast dies off it releases a toxin that can make you feel kind of yucky. It affects some people more than others, but if you are feeling fluish or achy in any way you may want to incorporate some of the following into your regimen. If this doesn’t work you may want to cut back on the amount of things you are taking or doing to kill off the yeast.
Hydration: Drink Lots of good, clean, pure water throughout the day.
Redmond Clay: pulls toxins out of the body
Bath Soak- add 2-3 Tbsp. to bathtub and soak 20 minutes
Foot Soak-add 1-2 Tbsp. to foot bath and soak 20 minutes.
Drink- add 1 tsp. to a glass of water (or to your green drink).
Rest: allows body to recuperate and rebuild
Dry skin brushing: stimulates liver and helps elimination pathways open
Avoid constipation:
Flaxseed: grind 1 Tbsp. flax seed in blender or coffee grinder until fine, then stir into a glass of lukewarm water, let stand for about ten minutes, stir and drink on an empty stomach.
Daily Detox Tea: (herbal tea combination you can get at the grocery store)
7. Other Helps
Moderate Exercise:
Sunshine: Get plenty of sunshine every day, drink sunshine water, watch the sunset or sunrise,
Deep Breathing: This is abdominal breathing. Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold breath for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds. Repeat and work up to 8 seconds each. Do this for 5-10 minutes 2 times a day.
Pre-biotics: use to stimulate growth of pro-biotics (chicory root, jerusalem artichoke, dandelion greens, garlic, leek, onion, asparagus, flax, and chia seeds)
8. Heal the Gut
Several things can be done to help the gut to heal. Following are some of the things that have been found to be helpful.
Essential Oils: Choose from Inside Out, Julia, Synopsis (Butterfly Essential Oil Blends – mix with carrier oil and rub on tummy)
Herbal Teas: Peppermint, Ginger, Etc.
Redmond Clay: 1 tsp. in a glass of water daily
Glutamine: an amino acid that helps to repair the gut lining
Bone Broths: Make your own and drink a cup a day
This can be very helpful because yeast affects so many organs and systems of the body and foot zoning can help to bring things into balance. Zoning also helps the body to be more alkaline which is beneficial in getting yeast under control.
10. Maintenance
Since we are constantly exposed to yeast overgrowth triggers it is highly unlikely that you will never need to rebalance your gut. Using probiotic’s and taking green supplements daily, in addition to improving your diet are just the first steps to keeping your gut in check. You may want to spend at least one month out of the year taking the yeast herbs or essential oils daily. Don’t forget deep breathing, meditating, exercising, laughing, drinking plenty of pure water, enjoying the sunshine and engaging in other stress reducing activities. Additionally, you may want to consider reducing or eliminating pharmaceuticals, including birth control pills (work with your doctor). You may also want to learn how to use ‘natural antibiotics’ so that you can reduce or eliminate treating with prescription antibiotics.
